We analysed 200 skeletal muscle biopsies performed in Perth from 1975 to 1979. Indications included weakness, peripheral neuropathy, muscular dystrophy carrier detection, and myalgias. The most commonly sampled muscle was vastus lateralis (45%). Positive conclusions were reached in 63% of the cases. No abnormality was found in 55 patients (27.5%).
