No loss from solution was observed for any of these drugs during storage either in the glass containers or in the plastic syringes. It is apparent therefore that single-use plastic syringes with 23-gauge disposable needles may be substituted for the glass syringes, previously suggested. for use in conjunction with high-density polyethylene tubing for infusing solutions of nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, chlormethiazzole and diazepam. If solutions are to be infused for longer it may be necessary to use 50 to 100 ml syringes. Although the plastic syringe plus highdensity polyethylene tubing infusion system overcomes the interactions of chlormethiazole, diazepam, isosorbide dinitrate and nitroglycerin with conventional givingsets and enables all of the available drug to be delivered to the patient, it may not necessarily be the best system for these drugs. Development of giving-sets from more inert plastics (e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene) rather than from polyvinylchloride and cellulose esters may enable these drugs to be administered to patients in a less complex manner.
