In 1980, 225 cases of malaria occurred in 14785 refugees from Indo‐China arriving in Australia. At least 74% of the cases occurred in the 3318 refugees who had been in transit in Indonesia and almost all of these were infections with Plasmodium vivax. It is suggested that radical treatment be given soon after arrival to all those refugees who have been in transit in Indonesia.
