The grade of cerebral function on admission, the clinical outcome and the initial computerized tomographic (CT) scan of 52 patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage have been reviewed. The presence of widespread haemorrhage, hydrocephalus, haematoma and ischaemia on the initial CT scan is associated with poor neurological outcome in this series, irrespective of the initial neurological grading.
