Lorazepam, a new minor benzodiazepine tranquillizer, was given intramuscularly to 19 patients suffering from acute alcohol withdrawal. The severity of their symptoms decreased rapidly. Lorazepam appears to be useful in the management of withdrawal symptoms, and more extensive trials are recommended.
