The tetanus immunization status of 26956 subjects was evaluated from an automated questionnaire at the Medicheck Referral Centre during 1976–1977. Over all, the results show that 33.9% of respondents have had primary vaccination, and that 41.6% of those have had a booster injection in the last five years. Primary immunization status was not known in 40.8% of cases. The findings are tabulated according to education level, country of birth and age of the subjects. Primary tetanus immunization status is higher in the more educated Australian‐born young males. Booster injection status is greater in overseas‐born young males and is not directly related to educational level. The study examines the need for comprehensive immunization programmes and balanced health education.
