Mothers in the northern Sydney suburbs have rediscovered breast feeding. The breast feeding rate of infants at six months of age increased from 12% to 48% during the period between 1972 and 1977. It is hoped that this return to the traditional and natural practice of breast feeding, and family participation at the birth, will continue and help provide a foundation for a more emotionally secure and resilient society.
