Seventy-four years and 2 million road deaths later we are still battling with this problem to which we now find added the problems of heroin, cannabis, LSD, barbiturates, tranquillizers, and so on. Furthermore, the collectors of statistics provide us with little in the way of encouragement. The relationship between alcohol and motor vehicle accidents has been the subject of a considerable volume of medical literature and, of course, has received abundant exposure in the lay press.
