The Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, was inaugurated in 1952. Events leading to its foundation are described, together with the steps of evolution. An evaluation of its present‐day relations with the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons is made, and the extension of its activities to South‐East Asia and the community is indicated.
