Chronic mesenteric ischaemia is a rare but well‐documented cause of abdominal pain. It must as a routine be considered in the differential diagnosis of post‐prandial abdominal pain when the standard investigations give negative results. The diagnosis depends exclusively on angiography, including lateral views of the aorta and the origins of the mesenteric arteries. As in some cases the condition progresses to massive gut infarction, reconstructive surgery is strongly indicated and gives excellent results.
