Improved viability, quality, oxygen delivery capacity and metabolic activity of packed cells was obtained when blood was collected into (CP2D) citrate‐phosphate anticoagulant with extra dextrose and, after separation of plasma, stored in an adenine‐enhanced electrolyte solution. The system has been incorporated into clinical transfusion practice.
