latest Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits, is to be issued only twice a year (in June and December), instead of three times, according to recent advice from the Department of Health; a pamphlet containing detailed amendments will supplement the book in April and August. It is to be noted that the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee meets three times a year. Accordingly, following a recommendation of the N.S.W. Branch which the other Branches supported, Federal Council resolved that an approach be made to the Commonwealth Government requesting "that major deletions and amendments to the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefitsbe only made at a time when they can be incorporated in a new printing of the Schedule" and, as a complementary resolution, "that the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits be reprinted on each occasion following approval of recommendations emanating from regular meetings of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee". Suggestions came from several Branches on ways of reducing inconvenience and financial hardship to patients in relation to prescribing of pharmaceutical benefits, and a series of resolutions were adopted of which, it was agreed, the Minister for Health should be advised.
