A case of volvulus of the transverse colon in an elderly female Australian Aboriginal is reported. The rarity of the condition is stressed and the radiological features are discussed. Reference is also made to the geographical distribution of all types of volvulus of the colon, and to the apparently high incidence of the condition in Aboriginal patients admitted to the Darwin Hospital.
