Four cases of scalds caused by defective car heater connections are described. The injuries mainly involved the lower limbs and two required skin grafting. Reasons suggested for this unpredictable occurrence include: (i) Rapid increase and higher temperature and pressure within the closed circulating water system during prolonged driving in low gear and at slow speeds; (ii) excessive heat and pressure in hot weather; (iii) Perished rubber connecting hoses and other mechanical defects.
