A study of the social and motivational aspects of 831 men who underwent bilateral vasectomy in Brisbane between April, 1970, and February, 1972, showed significant trends in age, socioeconomic status and religion. Over 98% of the sample reported complete satisfaction with the operation, and the significance of this response is discussed. Overall it is concluded that vasectomy is becoming a worthwhile popular means of contraception, particularly for those couples who find other methods unacceptable.
