A brief historical review of the traditional role of surgery in genitourinary tuberculosis is presented and contrasted with its role since the introduction of chemotherapy. A view of the present Indications for nephrectomy is given, and alternative operative procedures on the kidney are discussed. The particular problems associated with stenotic lesions of the ureter are indicated, and the limited place for surgery in tuberculosis of the bladder and male genitalia is emphasized.
