The introduction of a night resident schedule based on the Continental 3:2:2 System (Cuming, 1971), 24‐hour day, 7‐day week, using resident medical officers from the Casualty Department is described. Consideration is given to service demands, continuity of care, support and supervision, and in‐service training.
