Six cases of Crohn's disease are reported from Singapore. Of these patients, four are Chinese, one is a Sikh and one Irish. Crohn's disease, which is relatively common in Caucasians, is extremely rare in people of Mongoloid stock. Apart from a strong racial bias, there is a definite predisposition to the disease. Furthermore, in Singapore where tuberculosis is still a problem, the rarity of Crohn's disease in the population excludes the tubercle bacillus as a likely cause of the latter disease. The recurrence of Crohn's disease, which sometimes poses a problem after surgical treatment, is not encountered in the present series.
