This paper, the third and final one in this series of brief reports, completes an account of information obtained in a baseline study at the Southern Memorial Hospital. The investigative, consultative and supportive service demands arising out of the survey contacts are summarized and some features of utilization are analysed. Comment is made on the marked difference between the actual utilization rate of investigative and consultative services provided at the Southern Memorial Hospital and the estimated degree of suitability as scored by the survey doctors. The complexities of the barriers to access are recognized and the future development of the community care centre is tentatively explored. The high rate of unfulfilled demand for ancillary services is also discussed and some of the reasons for this are outlined. Whilst there may be considerable interest in the data obtained in this survey, and some value in consideration of parts of the information for interim planning, the real purpose will only be achieved when subsequent evaluation studies can be undertaken.
