Two cases of hyperthyroidism complicated by symptomatic hypercalcaemia are reported. The serum calcium values of a group of 52 untreated thyrotoxic patients were significantly higher than those of treated thyrotoxic patients. Six of the untreated group had serum calcium levels above 11·0 mg/100 ml; all fell to normal with control of the thyrotoxicosis. The mechanisms of production of hypercalcaemia in thyrotoxicosis are discussed, and the importance of excluding coexisting hyperparathyroidism is emphasized.
