A group of women taking oral contraceptives containing 19‐nortestosterone derivatives has been compared with a similar group taking the megestrol‐containing compound Serial C and with a control group. Significant differences were found In weight, blood pressure, glucose tolerance, serum triglyceride levels, haemoglobin levels, serum bilirubin levels and SGOT levels. There were no significant differences in serum cholesterol levels. There was no significant difference in the incidence of breast lumps as reported by mammography, nor in any other mammographic abnormalities. This was also true for a subgroup who had been taking Serial C for more than five years.
