Before 1969, it was the policy in the Royal Hobart Hospital to use a urethral catheter for bladder drainage after vaginal repair procedures. The results obtained in a series of patients in which suprapubic cystostomy for bladder drainage was performed are presented and will be discussed in terms of patient comfort, nursing care and complications.
