Three patients with Paget's disease of bone have been treated for periods of 8 to 18 months with daily injections of porcine calcitonin. In all patients there were substantial decreases in the biochemical indices of increased bone turnover. In two of the patients symptomatic relief of bone pain was obtained, and in one patient there was histological evidence of formation of normal bone after 12 months’ treatment. The possible role of calcitonin in treating Paget's disease is discussed.
