Inhalational challenge with allergens is being used increasingly In overseas centres to determine the role of allergens in precipitating childhood asthma. This paper reviews some of the immunological evidence to support the validity of this test and some of the difficulties encountered in performing it. The methods used to adapt an extract of Australian house dust of unknown biological potency to be suitable for inhalation and subsequent testing with it are described.
