The rate of immunization to the Rh(D) antigen was investigated in Rh(D)‐negative patients who had undergone open heart surgery. Twenty Rh(D)‐negative patients received an average of 19·4 units of Rh(D)‐positive blood at operation. Nineteen of these patients developed anti‐Rh(D) antibody.
