Med. J. Aust. , 1974, 1: 293‐298. A survey of a selected population of Australian women between the ages of 16 and 61 years showed a significant incidence of anaemia. Forty‐six of 1,024 women tested (4.5%) were found to be anaemic (haemoglobin level less than 12 gm/100 ml). Forty‐five of these proved to be suffering from iron deficiency anaemia. If 11.5 gm/100 ml is taken as the lower limit of normal haemoglobin level, 2‐2% of our sample were anæmic. These findings are similar to two other Australian surveys.
