The effects of oxandrolone, a synthetic non‐androgenic steroid, have been studied in 47 patients with hyperlipidæmia. The drug induced a rapid and persisting fall in plasma triglycerides exceeding 50 mg/100 ml in one‐half of the patients. About one‐third of the patients had falls in serum cholesterol levels. No serious side effects developed in a period of seven months’ treatment. It is concluded that this drug may be helpful in reducing serum triglycerides and cholesterol levels in patients who need this reduction.
