A new science, futurology, has come into being. Conferences and symposia on futurology, books and reports, have become part of the current scene. The approach of the year 2000 makes this science even more meaningful. Besides marking the end of a millennium, what will happen in A.D. 2000 may concern many of us, and will certainly affect our students and the world in which they will practise medicine.
