This communication is a summary of the introductory stage of joint neurosurgical and orthopaedic project aimed at study of the low back pain conditions treated in both specialities. It covers a retrospective survey of 1,000 consecutive cases of low back pain presenting on neurosurgical and orthopaedic grounds.
