The sensitivity of gonococci to penicillin, tetracycline and kanamycin in South Vietnam is discussed. The extreme resistance to penicillin, with 61% of strains resistant to 1 unit/ml, contrasts with the degree of resistance to tetracycline and kanamycin, which is comparable with that reported elsewhere In the world. A failure rate of 22% with 10 mega units of penicillin, in divided doses over three days, plus probenecid, and failure with even higher doses indicate the limitations of penicillin therapy in this environment. Excellent cure rates with tetracycline (100%) and kanamycin (98%) were obtained.
