In 1970, a follow‐up survey was undertaken on diabetics and potential diabetics who were recorded in the 1966 Toowoomba Survey. The project was designed as an exercise in gathering data on community health. Questions were asked on types of treatment, complications and restrictions inactivity and a survival chart was constructed which confirmed the lower expectations of life in diabetics. It was concluded that diabetic patients could, in general, be managed in the community and that such care would be improved by the establishment of community care centres.
