One hundred and twenty‐four male patients with acute, uncomplicated urethral gonorrhoea were given 2 gm of spectinomycin hydrochloride (base equivalent) intramuscularly in one dose and all but four patients (3‐5%) responded to this treatment. In patients who are allergic to penicillin, spectinomycin is a very good alternative, especially in patients who may not return for a follow‐up examination.
