Trigger thumb is not rare, but it should not be confused with more serious injuries of the thumb. The simplicity of its treatment is matched by the simplicity of its aetiology, which has been clarified by recent studies on the intratendinous architecture of the flexor pollicis longus tendon. Its frequency in infancy is stressed.
