When bladder drainage is required following gynæcological surgery, the suprapubic route is preferred to the transurethral, in order to lessen the patient's discomfort, to ease the burden on the nursing staff and to reduce the incidence and severity of resultant urinary infection. The writer presents his experience in the use of a small‐gauge suprapubic tube, which he prefers to a larger suprapubic Foley catheter.
