A case of massive haemolysis after insertion of a Beall valve mitral prosthesis and a Starr‐Edwards aortic prosthesis is reported. The case appears to be unusual in the early onset and rapid Increase of haemolysis in the presence of normally functioning valves, leading to acute renal failure from hsemo‐ globinuria. In the light of the experience of others, the haemolysis may have been due to the Beall Dacron‐velour covered valve.
