Supraglottic tumours are usually more advanced when first detected than glottic tumours, and they do not respond as well to radiotherapy. Clinical and histopathological observations indicate that supraglottic tumours tend not to involve the glottis. Good results can be obtained with a horizontal supraglottic laryngectomy, with preservation of normal swallowing and an adequate voice.
