Rheumatoid disease involving the flexor tendon compartment of the hand is often a major factor contributing to loss of power grip in the hand, impaction and adhesion of flexor tendons within the digital theca are recognized by a significant difference between the range of active flexion and passive flexion of the fingers. Extensive synovectomy of the flexor tendon compartment gives good results and is frequently combined with carpal tunnel release at the wrist level. There is little place for a simple palmar release of “triggering” in rheumatoid disease of the flexor tendon compartment.
