The development, structure and aims of the Prince Henry Hospital Adolescent Psychiatric Unit are described and data from a follow‐up study of patients admitted during the first three years of the unit are assessed. Best results were obtained with psychoneurotic patients. There is evidence that when hospitalization concluded the rejection of the adolescent by his family, therapy was not successful. The comparative desirability of all‐adolescent and integrated adult‐adolescent units is considered. Finally, the importance of liaison with community resources is stressed.
