Two cases of massive posterior sequestration of lumbar intervertebral discs with resulting paraparesis are reported following manipulation in the management of low back pain. The conflicting opinions regarding the management of the condition are discussed. When sequestration of the disc following manipulation occurs, the presentation of this complication may be bizarre. When it is associated with paraparesis, laminectomy is indicated.
