Fungus‐balls of the lung are uncommon; five cases presenting at the Royal Adelaide Hospital over a two‐year period are discussed from the viewpoint of diagnosis and management. Four patients underwent surgery and recovered satisfactorily; the fifth, who was considered unfit for surgery, died in hospital, and the autopsy findings are presented. The diagnostic problems are outlined in general and exemplified, particularly In one patient, who showed features of allergic broncho‐pulmonary aspergillosis. Difficulties were encountered in isolating the causative fungus before surgery, and the value of serology in the diagnosis of fungal disease is discussed.
