Two hundred and forty‐eight specimens of urine were tested with a new pregnancy test, Pretel, and the results were compared with those obtained by the test method In current use In the laboratory. The accuracy of the test was evaluated in 174 cases for which clinical outcome could be ascertained. An attempt was made to assess the effect on the test of protein and ketones In the urine and of recent medication of the patient In 174 tests, the results of Pretel showed complete agreement with clinical outcome in 94% of cases and 1% were false negatives. In a total of 248 tests, Pretel was In complete agreement with the comparative test in 88% and disagreed with it in 2%. It was not possible to demonstrate that protein and/or ketones in the urine affected the accuracy of Pretel. The effect of recent medication could not be evaluated because of lack of Information. The Pretel test is simple to perform. In only 20 of the 248 tests was difficulty experienced In reading the result. The test kit does not require refrigeration for storage.
