With the increasing demands on emergency services, especially In large cities in which many people spend most of their day at a distance from their family doctor, it is interesting to read of an organization which fulfils the needs of a city population. Prof. Jakobsen describes the central emergency service in Oslo which covers surgical and medical emergencies as well as an ambulance service, a service for house calls and a service for arranging admission to hospitals.
