Two cases of calabar swelling are described in immigrants to Western Australia Both infections were probably contracted in Nigeria. The nature of the worm was believed to be Acanthocheilonema perstans in one case and Loa loa in the the other. The finding of an adult worm in a calabar swelling is of ætiological significance, since it indicates that, at least in some cases, the swellings are produced by the presence of adult worms. An unusual location of Loa loa in muscle interstitial tissue is recorded. The significance of the cellular reaction and splenomegaly is discussed. An adult Loa loa was still present in the swelling three hours after its appearance.
