Medical social work in general practice is a novelty in Australia. Experience gained following two years’ attachment of a medical social work team to a five‐man metropolitan group practice is described; in particular a review of the areas of referral are outlined and two examples of medical case work are quoted. A comparison is made with a similar study of such an attachment scheme in a London suburb.
