Œstriol assays at the Royal Women's Hospital, Brisbane, have been subjected to computer analysis. Patients with preeclampsia, when fœtal death or other complications have not occurred, have normal levels of œstriol excretion unless proteinuria has developed. In the absence of complications, prolonged pregnancy is not associated with depressed œstriol excretion. The significance of these findings is discussed. The value of the test to the clinician is emphasized.
