Experience in being a member of the undergraduate teaching staff for a number of years in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia has left me with firm convictions concerning the place and requirements of a modern teaching hospital. It is not possible to present proof that such attitudes are correct. It could be that, had my personal experience been different, my conclusions may have been somewhat different. While one recognizes these limitations, however, this paper records the conclusions I have reached regarding the desirable future developments of undergraduate teaching hospitals in Australia in general and New South Wales In particular. These views do not necessarily reflect those of any other person or institution with which I am now associated, or have in the past been associated.
