There has been a marked reduction In the number of women attending a public hospital cytology clinic who have never had a cervical cancer smear test. Two unsuspected cases of carcinoma‐in situ were detected during one year. This is in contrast to the 11 patients with invasive carcinoma of the cervix admitted to the public hospital during the same 12 month period, of whom none had had a smear test for at least five years. A recommendation is made to general practitioners to take cervical smears for testing from all female patients every three years.
