Two cases of Bell's palsy are presented. One was in a young woman, and was complicating infectious mononucleosis, and the other was in an older woman and was associated with diabetes mellitus. Support is submitted for the theory that there are two different disease processes, one infectious in young people and the other ischæmic in older patients. It is suggested that investigations for infectious mononucleosis should be performed on young people with Bell's palsy.
