A case is presented of fatal malignant hyperpyrexia which developed during general anæsthesia in a 16‐year‐old male undergoing minor surgery. Profuse wound and venepuncture‐site bleeding before the patient's death resulted in the most detailed coagulation studies described in this condition. A comparison is made between these findings and those described in cases of severe heat stroke, with hyperpyrexia appearing to be the common ætiological factor. The problem of the diagnosis of systemic fibrinolysis and its therapeutic implications are briefly discussed.
