The clinical features and management of 100 psychiatric patients in the Australian Force, Vietnam, referred for consultation during a four‐month period are described. On the basis of this series and experiences in other areas, it is suggested that adequate personality assessment of all members and rapid removal of those who are emotionally disturbed are important factors in maintaining the stability of the Force. The factors involved in making this assessment, at home and abroad, are discussed.
